Athens Drive Star Makes Triumphant Return to the Triangle
|
Triangle high scholl baseball star Josh Hamilton will vie against the Bulls in early June. |
Cincinnati Reds Manager Jerry Narron said Josh Hamilton (gastroenteritis) probably will rejoin the Reds June 5th in St. Louis. In the meantime, Hamilton is scheduled to join Triple-A Louisville for the four game series vs the Durham Bulls. “I’m sure the people down there will be doing cartwheels to have Josh Hamilton come down to get some at-bats,” Narron said.
Josh Hamilton, the #1 overall selection in the 1999 MLB draft out of Athens Drive HS (Raleigh), has made an inspiring return from alcohol and drug addiction to be the front runner for the National League Rookie of the Year Award.
Hamilton, 26, was the National League Rookie of the Month for April after leading all Major League rookies in HR (6), extra-base hits (10), on-base percentage (.365) and slugging percentage (.609) while tying for the Major League rookie lead in RBI (13). When he went on the disabled list on 5/22, he led all National League rookies in HR (8) and outfield assists (3) and ranked in the top three in almost every other offensive category.
