CBC President & CEO Jim Goodmon flips the switch to put 99.9 FM on a new tower. |
Capitol Broadcasting Company has a new radio tower located in Auburn, N.C., that will significantly upgrade the already powerful Triangle signal for 99.9 FM The Fan (WCMC).
With the help of an 18.5kW power upgrade, the new tower/antenna location is nine miles southeast of downtown Raleigh and will increase the reach of local Triangle sports programming to an expanded population of 1,628,394. It also features an antenna that soars 676 feet in the air –102 feet higher than the station’s previous antenna, which was located 21 miles north of Raleigh in Youngsville, N.C.

In non-technical terms, the new antenna/tower arrangement and increase of power for WCMC-FM means complete signal saturation for the radio station in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill market, along with greater reach in the outlying metro areas.
“When the opportunity presented itself for us to offer expanded coverage and clarity for our passionate listeners, we were excited to make it happen,” said Dave Shore, Operations Manager of CBC’s sports radio properties. “This is another way to show our listeners we appreciate their loyalty and to reaffirm 99.9 FM The Fan as a leader of Triangle sports programming.”
