Keep Durham Beautiful recently honored Diamond View II with a prestigious Golden Leaf Award. The organization presented the eighth annual honors at an evening reception at the Trotter Building in downtown Durham on Thursday, September 30, 2010. The City/County Appearance Commission hosted the event, along with Keep Durham Beautiful.
An independent panel of judges selected Diamond View II as the winner in the Commercial Properties category. Diamond View II competed against 62 entries to become one of only 17 to receive an award.
The Commercial Properties Award is given for new construction, renovation or adaptive reuse of non-residential properties. Diamond View II opened in July 2008. Smith Breeden Associates is the anchor tenant, leasing 50,000 square feet in the 154,000 square foot office building. The Law Offices of James Scott Farrin, Compuware and KeySource Bank three other large tenants in the building which overlooks the Durham Bulls Ballpark.
Tobacco Road Sports Café opened in Diamond View II in April 2010, with a large indoor sports bar featuring 50+ TVs and an outdoor patio area overlooking the DBAP.
Cline Design was the architect for the building, and Bovis was the general contractor.
Judges evaluate the entries in several areas including excellence in design and execution of new development; raising community awareness of the value of good appearance and careful stewardship of the land; improving the character, environment, or livability of an area; and showing commitment to ongoing property management.
Keep Durham Beautiful presents the Golden Leaf Awards on an annual basis. The goal of the awards program is to encourage better designed and maintained properties in Durham.
