Good luck to everyone at the Baltimore stations

Capitol Broadcasting Company sold its Baltimore division, WWMX-FM and WOCT-FM, to American Radio Systems (ARS) headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts. The sale follows recent legislation deregulating the broadcast industry allowing for multiple radio station ownership in a single market.

ARS, which already owns WBGR-AM, WBMD-AM and WQSR-FM in Baltimore, is scheduled to take control of the stations under an LMA Agreement. The CBC Baltimore group was formed in November 1986 with the purchase of WWMX-FM from S & F Communications followed by the purchase of WSSF in December 1993. WSSF became WOCT-FM The Colt in 1994.

In announcing the sale, Jim Goodmon said, “With deregulation, a combination of Capitol and ARS Stations in Baltimore really makes sense. I have a great deal of pride in what has been accomplished by our Baltimore stations. Both have a tradition of community service and involvement that is unsurpassed in radio broadcasting.”
