DIAMOND VIEW: MAJOR INVESTMENT IN DOWNTOWN DURHAM, NC
RALEIGH, NC – AUGUST 08, 1997 — Capitol Broadcasting Company and Duke University Medical Center announced today that the Medical Center will become a major tenant in a 90,000 square foot office building to be constructed in downtown Durham, NC by Capitol Broadcasting. The office building, known as Diamond View, will be located adjacent to Durham Bulls Athletic Park (DBAP), where the new Triple-A Durham Bulls will begin play next season. In fact, Diamond View tenants will be able to watch the Triple-A Bulls from the balconies overlooking the ballpark. Groundbreaking will take place at 9:00 a.m. on Monday morning, August 11. Diamond View is expected to be ready for occupancy on June 1, 1998.
Diamond View represents the largest private investment in downtown Durham in more than a decade. It will create approximately 320 jobs, and will have an annual economic impact estimated in excess of $6 million. The venture comes at a time when there is a shortage of quality office space in Durham.
Diamond View is a Class-A office building with architecture that mirrors the award-winning style of the DBAP. It will offer state-of-the-art conveniences, including the latest in telecommunications capabilities. Centrally located and immediately adjacent to the Durham Freeway, Diamond View is just an eight minute drive to Research Triangle Park, NC and Duke University.
In making this announcement, Jim Goodmon, president and CEO of Capitol Broadcasting Company, expressed confidence in ongoing efforts by political and civic leaders to revitalize downtown Durham. “We believe that downtown Durham’s better days lie ahead. Many people are working very hard to bring back the glory days that downtown Durham once knew. We are pleased to make a contribution to that effort.”
Goodmon also thanked those that helped make Diamond View a reality. “Without the Durham Bulls Athletic Park, there would be no Diamond View office building. Without the vision of those who supported the ballpark, there would be no Diamond View. Without the City of Durham as a partner, there would be no Diamond View. And, without Duke University Medical Center’s commitment to downtown Durham, Diamond View would not a reality today.”
Capitol also announced that negotiations are underway with another major tenant. However, space remains available. Inquiries should be made to Thomas Commercial (919)875-6706. Ask for Rex Thomas, Jim Thompson, or Robert Beller.
