WRAL-TV5 Helps with Hurricane Mitch Relief Efforts |
The American Red Cross thanked WRAL-TV5 for helping them raise contributions towards their relief efforts for Hurricane Mitch. WRAL-TV5 produced and aired a 30 minutes special, showing what the American Red Cross was doing to help the survivors and victims, and that people’s contributions really were making a difference.
So far, the American Red Cross has sent shipments of medications, tons of water treatment chemicals, rice, beans, vegetable oil, blankets, portable water cans, hygiene and comfort kits. They report that over 5,000 volunteers are working in 767 shelters, caring for over 800,000 victims. Over the next few months, the cost of this emergency effort is projected to exceed $6 million.
Since the special aired, the local Chapter has received over $20,000 in contributions. If you would like to help support this worthy effort, call 1-800-HELP-NOW.
