The James F. Goodmon Public Radio Building Dedicated to CBC President and CEO
On Friday, October 1, 1999, WUNC officially dedicated its new building to James F. Goodmon, President and CEO of Capitol Broadcasting Company as a celebration of Goodmon’s long-standing commitment to public service broadcasting at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.
During the ceremonies, it was noted that Goodmon has set an exceptionally high standard of public service and has been a long, generous supporter of public broadcasting. The new building equips WUNC with the resources to provide ever-higher levels of audience service. The building’s digital infrastructure will enable WUNC to make the transition to digital broadcasting and on-line content distribution.
Mr. Goodmon, through the AJ Fletcher Foundation on whose board he currently serves on, has also supported other UNC departments, including the Music Department, the School of Journalism and Mass Communication, and the Communications Studies Department. He also serves on the Board of Trustees for the NC Center of Public Television, and recently became a national Honorary Trustee for American Women in Radio and Television (AWRT).
