NCAB Telethon Hailed as Tremendous Success
The North Carolina Association of Broadcasters thanked all of their member stations that participated in the Hurricane Floyd Relief Fund Telethon/Radiothon. On Sunday, October 3, 133 radio and television stations throughout North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia and a webcast through broadcast.com helped to raise $2,229,855.45.
CBC stations WRAL-TV5, FOX50, UPN46, WB55, and MIX101.5 FM, aired portions of the telecast throughout the event, and the North Carolina News Network provided the radio feed for all North Carolina radio stations.
One hundred and ten phones were used to take pledges, manned by 50 pledge operators at the Plaza Mall stage location in Raleigh and 60 operators in the UNC-TV studios in Chapel Hill, NC. Both radio and TV stations from across the state contributed their personal stories and coverage of the devastation, flooding, and personal tragedies.
