Looking Good and Feeling Good: Pelicans Ranked First in Merchandise Sales
MYRTLE BEACH, SC – According to Minor League Baseball, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans Professional Baseball Club will finish the 1999 season ranked first of 158 affiliated teams in merchandise sales. Monetary figures are not made available. This accolade enhanced the Pelicans first season of existence in which they were crowned champions of the Carolina League.
In addition to Minor League Baseball’s ranking of the Pelicans, New Era declared the Pelicans as having the number one selling hat in minor league baseball. New Era is the “Official Cap Company of Major & Minor League Baseball.” New Era and JanSport are the primary providers of Pelicans merchandise. David Frost, the Pelicans director of retail/promotions, and Chris Henwood, an independent design concept artist in Appleton, WI, worked together in designing the Pelicans logo. According to Frost, the logo went through several phases before the final product was decided upon.
Pelicans merchandise first went on sale in July of 1998, but Minor League’s tabulation of sales did not begin until January 1, 1999. Pelicans merchandise is available for purchase year round at the Pelicans Pro Shop at Coastal Federal Field in Myrtle Beach. The Pro Shop is open Monday through Friday (10 AM – 5 PM), Saturday (10 AM – 2 PM) and is closed on Sunday during the off season. According to Frost, sales have been brisk over the Internet on the Pelicans web-site at www.myrtlebeachpelicans.com. Frost can be reached at 843-918-6009 for merchandise orders over the phone.
David Frost, Director of Retail/Promotions, said, “Having the number one selling logo in minor league baseball is a testament to all the Pelicans fans here in the Myrtle Beach area and around the country. Our first season is under our belts and we are looking forward to retaining our status in the year 2000 as one of the top minor league organizations in the country.”
