|Capitol AgriBusiness/WRAL-TV Farm Broadcaster Speaks To Landscape Conference|
Dan Wilkinson, Ag Program director with Capitol Agribusiness and WRAL-TV, recently spoke to a group of farmers who are struggling to keep up with the growth in their industry…and that is a rarity theses day. Dan was the luncheon speaker at the Eastern North Carolina Landscape Conference in Wilson, where it was standing room only for the daylong event.
The “Green” industry, as the nursery, greenhouse, and ornamental businesses are collectively called, is
the fastest growing element of agriculture in North Carolina. The North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services reports that over the last 10 years, this type of farming has grown over 500%!
Wilkinson told the group about the importance of developing a relationship with the media and how to tell the story of this incredible growth industry. The meeting was attended by a wide range of professionals, from those who grow nursery plant stock, to those who make soil and soil additives, to the local parks and recreation workers who have to maintain the products once they are planted. Dan is not a novice to this industry, as he has a small hobby nursery and garden at his home in Raleigh.
