MIX Personality Gets Bugged |
Radio personalities are frequently called upon to do crazy things, and one MIX 101.5 talent recently earned himself a new nickname around the studio for one such antic. WRAL-FM afternoon co-host Jim “Jiminy” Kelly participated in a cricket-spitting contest to kick-off BuGFest 2001, the fifth annual insect celebration at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences.

Kelly stepped up to the spitting line with Dan Capps, the cricket spitting world record holder at 32 feet 1.25 inches. Kelly spat only 7 feet shy of Capps’ spit that day, taking second place with a 21′ spit. Wake County Commissioner Betty Lou Ward and Museum Director Betsy Bennett joined in the fun as well and took third and fourth places respectively. |
The crickets were frozen and Kelly said, “It wasn’t bad at all. It’s not like you ate it…though Dan did.”
