Join WRAL & The North Carolina Symphony For Pops In The Park |
Over 40,000 people are expected to gather on the grounds of Meredith College this Labor Day weekend for WRAL’s 22nd Annual Pops In The Park concert. WRAL, the NC Symphony and other area sponsors present the event as a gift to Triangle residents. The event, on Sunday, Sept. 2, is free and open to the public.
The Symphony begins playing at 6:30pm. The outdoor concert has become a Labor Day tradition in the Triangle and will once again conclude with a fireworks display set to Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture played by the orchestra. The event kicks off Symphony’s upcoming season.
The concert will begin with Hector Berlioz’s Rakoczy March from Damnation of Faust and also include works by Verdi, Tchaikovsky & Strauss. WRAL will broadcast one hour of the performance at 7:00pm on Monday, Sept. 3, and UNC-TV will broadcast the concert on Sunday, Sept 9 at 6:00pm. Both stations work together to organize the event and produce the television program.
Gates open at 4:00pm. Activities will be available for families including meeting WRAL-TV personalities, free balloons, face painting and WakeMed’s pint-size Picasso. The Fraternal Order of Police will be on hand to staff the Ident-I-Kid program. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring picnics, blankets and lawn chairs. No pets or alcohol, please. Food and beverages will be available on site.
Because of construction on the campus, parking will be limited. As opposed to its usual location, Pops in the Park will take place on the grounds to the right of the main entrance of Meredith College. Visitors should use the upper Faircloth entrance at the corner of Hillsborough and Faircloth. The main entrance will be closed except for vendors and sponsors.
The rain date for the event is Monday, September 3.
