In a historic demonstration of cooperation, major U.S. television networks and radio stations are banding together to present “America: A Tribute To Heroes,” a two-hour telethon to raise money for the victims of the recent terrorist attacks in New York and Washington. All of Capitol Broadcasting Company’s television stations and its one radio station will carry the event live from 9:00-11:00pm on Friday, September 21st.
The broadcast networks associated with CBC stations, CBS, FOX, UPN and WB, are all carrying the event nationwide. Other major networks including ABC, NBC, PBS, PaxTV, Univision and Telemundo are also joining the effort along with cable outlets HBO, MTV, TNN, Lifetime, Showtime, TNT, VH1, Comedy Central, E!, BET BET Jazz, Fox Family, FX, Court TV, Discovery, TLC, TNN and the Sundance Channel.
Many radio stations across the country will air the broadcast as well. Yahoo! will videostream on the Internet. The event will run live in Eastern and Central time zones and tape-delayed in the Mountain and Pacific time zones.

A veritable Who’s Who of cinema and television stars will appear on the commercial-free simulcast. The list includes: Bon Jovi, Mariah Carey, Jim Carrey, George Clooney, Sheryl Crow, Tom Cruise, Cameron Diaz, the Dixie Chicks, Robert De Niro, Clint Eastwood, Tom Hanks, Wyclef Jean, Billy Joel, Tom Petty, Julia Roberts, Paul Simon, Will Smith, Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder and Neil Young.
All funds raised from the event will go to the United Way’s September 11th Fund.
