NCNN NCNN Wins StateNet Awards

Two of the North Carolina News Network’s staff recently received national recognition for their work. Sports Director Rick Dayton and Reporter Bruce Ferrell won awards from StateNet, formerly known as National Association of State Radio Networks.


NCNN’s Bruce Ferrell received the StateNet award for Best Feature.

NCNN’s Rick Dayton received the StateNet award for Best Sports Programming.

Ferrell won “Best Feature” for his coverage of the International Whistler’s Convention held in Louisburg in late April. Dayton won “Best Sports Programming” for his for a half hour documentary on the life of the late Nascar stock car driver Dale Earnhardt, who died in the final lap of the Daytona 500 in February. The program aired on NCNN’s North Carolina Report public affairs program and was also provided to affiliates who normally do not carry that program.

The awards were presented at the StateNets Convention in Colorado in November 2001. StateNets represents 27 individual state radio networks.
