MIX Kicks Off 2002 Radiothon for the Kids at Duke |
MIX 101.5/WRAL-FM begins its annual Radiothon to benefit Duke Children’s Hospital today, Wednesday, May 1, 2002, kicking off a month long fundraising effort; May is Miracle Month. MIX personalities and local celebrities will be broadcasting live from the new Children’s Helath Center at Duke, and volunteers will be on hand at the phone bank to take pledges.
“This is really a work of love for the entire staff at MIX/WRAL-FM,” said WRAL-FM Operations Manager Joe Wade Formicola. “We all clear time from every staff member during these five days. Everybody does everything. I’ll drive the car, sweep the floor, and deliver the pizza, whatever is needed. We all work together.”
The Radiothon runs through this Sunday, May 5, and the entire fundraiser will culminate with the WRAL-TV telethon and final check presentation live on both WRAL-FM and WRAL-TV on Sunday, May 26.
There are a variety of ways to give in this year’s Radiothon and help the kids at Duke:
Radiothon “icons” – On sale at area Applebee’s, Panera, Han-Dee Hugo, Costco, Eye Care Associates and Just Tires through May 30, the Radiothon icons are only $1. Your name goes on the icon, and then the icon goes on the wall for all to see. And all proceeds benefit programs at Duke Children’s Hospital and Health Center.
Make a pledge – Donate online or call the phone bank at 681-1015 or 866-681-1015. Phone lines will open up on Wednesday, May 1 beginning at 6am. Online donations can be made via the WRAL-FM website at https://www.wralfm.com/radiothon/chargepledge.htm.
Adopt a Duck – MIX will be collecting donations at the Belks at Crabtree Valley Mall, Cary Towne Center, Streets at Southpoint, and Northgage Mall. With just a $20 donation, you can adopt a large Waddles the Duck to be given to a kid at Duke.
Buy a new house – WRAL-FM and Pinkus Construction of Cary built a new house in Holly Springs. Proceeds from the sale of the house will go to Duke Children’s Hospital. Find out more about the house via the WRAL-FM website at http://www.www78683.w1.com/miraclehouse/miraclehouse.htm.
Reserve a ceramic tile – Make your child’s artwork a permanent part of the Children’s Tile Wall at the Streets of Southpoint and a lasting reminder of your support for the kids at Duke. Reserve your tile online at https://www.wralfm.com/tiles/tiles.htm. Your child will then be included in a tile painting party.
