Durham Bulls Celebrate Anniversary With Book About History |
To commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Durham Bulls, the team has released a new book titled “Durham Bulls Baseball: A History and Statistical Summary” which fully captures the history of minor league baseball in Durham since 1902.
“We believed it was important to know everything we could about the history we are celebrating this season,” Durham Bulls Public Relations Director Matt DeMargel said. “It took us about three months of research to put the book together, but I think the fans will really enjoy it.”
The book contains a full statistical summary of every season dating back to 1902, including standings, leaders, trivia, and complete statistics of every player. It has a full roster of over 5,000 men who have worn the Durham Bulls jersey, a list of all former Bulls to play in the Major Leagues, a page of All-Century Players and legends of the Durham Bulls.
“The research was tedious. I had to get photocopies of old record books listing every player in the Piedmont, Carolina and International Leagues and pick out the Durham Bulls from those lists,” DeMargel continued. “I burned up about four highlight markers recording all of the players, then all of the statistics had to be typed in by hand. My assistant, Micah Heilicser, was able to fill in the holes by doing research on microfiche at the library.”
The book is now on sale on the Bulls website at www.durhambulls.com and at the Ballpark Corner store for $14.99 plus shipping & handling. Orders will be filled by the end of September. For more information, contact Matt DeMargel at (919) 956-BULL or email at mdemargel@durhambulls.com.
