Student Television Sponsors Golf Tourney |
The Seventh Annual STV Children’s Charities Golf Classic happened at Regent Park Golf Club in Fort Mill, South Carolina on Friday August 23, 2002. The event was a great success raising 25% more funds for local children’s charities than last year.
The day was sunny and hot, but that did not deter the 112 golfers, volunteers and staff that made the event go off without a hitch.
The “STV Children’s Charities Golf Classic has garnered a reputation as one of the best captain’s-choice golf events in our area. We make sure that every golfer comes away having a great time and knowing they have done something to help children and families in our area.” said Jeff Johnson, on-air talent at WJZY UPN46 / Charlotte’s WB and co-founder of the event.
“This was the seventh year for the golf classic and it has become the signature event for our stations in the Charlotte business community.” said Will Davis, Vice President and General Manager of WJZY UPN46 and Charlotte’s WB. “The real beneficiaries, of course, are the local children and families who will receive the proceeds of the event.”
STV or Student Television is an on going community outreach program started by WJZY UPN46 and Charlotte’s WB to reach the youth and families of our viewing area with positive, informational and educational public service announcements. Each year this golf event raises funds for distribution to local children’s charities in our area.
“Our goal is to stay true to our mission that every child’s hopes, dreams and aspirations can be met,” added Todd Lawton, Director of Golf at Regent Park Golf Club and event co-founder. “And this event helps us fulfill this ideal.”
The Title sponsors for this year’s event were Fort Mill Ford and Hardee’s. Presenting sponsors were Chic-Fil-A, Circle K, Fishbone Grille, Frito Lay, Jocks and Jills, Pepsi and Sonic of Rock Hill.
