NCNN NCNN Lottery Story Wins State AP Award

The North Carolina News Network recently won an award from the State Associated Press Broadcasters Association. NCNN won for best Enterprise story for a live call-in show about the possibility of a lottery in North Carolina.

SAPBA gives the Enterprise Award for a story that reporters have gone out to find rather than coverage of breaking news.

Entitled “NC Lottery: Boom or Bust,” NCNN’s story involved several different staffers. NCNN Production Director Rusty Helser and Assistant Network Engineer David Modlin engineered the story and Helser’s wife, Norma, answered the phones. News Director Ellen Reinhardt produced, and WBT Radio’s John Hancock hosted.

“NC Lottery: Boom or Bust” aired last August shortly before the General Assembly voted on whether to allow voters to make their opinion known at the ballot box.
