“Noche Latina” Draws Fans at Durham Bulls |
The Durham Bulls hosted the 2nd Annual Noche Latina during their match-up with the Columbus Clippers on Sunday, August 17, 2003. A large crowd of over 9,800 in paid attendance filled the ballpark.
Upon entering the ballpark fans were greeted by a Mariachi Band playing on the concourse for an hour before the game. Then, in a pre-game ceremony, players from both teams who were of Latin descent were introduced to the crowd, and the consulates of Spain and Mexico to North Carolina were introduced and presented game balls.
Throughout the game, batters were announced in Spanish. Also, three between-inning promotions (Wool E. Bull Base Race, Sumo Wrestling and Termites in the Trousers) were emceed in Spanish.
