Team USA To Face Canada At Coastal Federal Field |
Team USA will play an exhibition game for the second straight year on the Pelicans home field. |
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans announced today that the 2004 USA Baseball National Team – which will represent the United States at the 2004 FISU World University Championships in Tainan, Taiwan in August – will play an exhibition game against the Canadian National Team at Coastal Federal Field in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on June 29, 2004. This marks the second consecutive year the National Team has chosen to play in the Grand Strand.
“It’s an honor to host the National Baseball Team,” said Matt O’Brien, Vice President/General Manager of the Pelicans who will host the event for the City of Myrtle Beach. “We saw the magic first hand last year as ‘USA’ cheers and red, white and blue colors filled the ballpark. We expect even more patriotism facing our Canadian rivals.”
The 7:05 pm tilt will be the sixth and final game of a Friendship Series with our foes from the North. Group and suite tickets for the event will go on sale Wednesday, February 11th through the Myrtle Beach Pelicans ticket office. Individual tickets will go on sale beginning on March 13. ‘The USA Baseball National Team is comprised primarily of the nation’s top freshman and sophomore collegiate players. Games 1-4 of the Friendship Series with Canada will be played at Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, North Carolina – the new home of USA Baseball – while Game 5 will take place in Aberdeen, Maryland. USA Baseball is the National Governing Body of amateur baseball in the United States and a member of the United States Olympic Committee. The organization selects and trains the USA Baseball Olympic Team, the USA Baseball National Team (Collegiate), the USA Baseball Junior National Team (18-under), and the USA Baseball Youth National Team (16-under) which participate in various international competitions each year.
