FOX50 Hundreds Turn Out For Gimme The Mike Auditions

Phase One of FOX 50’s Gimme the Mike wrapped up recently! Now it’s on to Phase Two: the enormous task of narrowing down 600+ hopefuls to a mere 25 contestants who will appear on FOX 50’s Gimme the Mike.

A huge crowd lined up for their change at stardom. Contestants got one minute to wow the judges with their a cappella songs.

If you’ve not heard about Gimme the Mike, here’s a brief explanation: FOX 50’s Gimme the Mike is a brand new show where 25 local contestants will sing on TV and compete for the grand prize: an all-expense paid, guaranteed audition with Sony, BMG and Universal music executives in New York, a free demo from Osceola Studios, and the honor of performing the National Anthem at a Durham Bulls baseball game.

Auditions were held on Saturday, April 3rd at Raleigh’s Triangle Town Center and Sunday, April 4th at Fayetteville’s Cross Creek Mall. The talent level was high, the turnout great, the excitement palpable, and the contestants were ready to belt it out, some arriving as early as 4am. Each one who auditioned got to choose their song, performing a cappella for up to a minute for the panel of judges who heard musical styles ranging from Pop and R&B to Rock, Country and Reggae.

Over the next couple weeks, producer David Creech will narrow the field to 25 singers who will perform on the televised shows. Everyone is invited to the free performances at the BTI Center May 19th and 20th. Then, beginning June 2nd, FOX 50 will air Gimme the Mike for 5 consecutive Wednesdays at 7:30, culminating in a one-hour finale broadcast LIVE Wednesday, July 7th at 8pm.

FOX 50’s Gimme the Mike is hosted by Jim Kelly from MIX 101.5. Judges include Dick Hodgin of Osceola Studios, Brian Dawson from K97.5 WQOK, and Faye Parker, Clay Aiken’s mother.
