Carroll Crowned As First Gimme the Mike Champ |
Twenty-five year old Jason Carroll sang his way to victory on the Gimme the Mike finale. |
Franklinton’s Jason Carroll won the hearts of the audience and the votes of the judges to become the Triangle’s first Gimme the Mike winner during the live finale on Wednesday, July 7, 2004. The 25-year-old got the crowd clapping to his rendition of “Chicks Dig It” and won a chance to audition at Sony, BMG and Universal Records in New York City.
As part of the grand prize package Carroll will also get to record a demo at Osceola Studios in Raleigh and will sing the national anthem at the Durham Bulls game on Saturday, July 10th.
FOX50 produced the local take-off on the wildly popular American Idol franchise.
Carroll and the other Gimme the Mike finalists each sang one song for the live show. Other finalists included Veeda McClary, of Raleigh; Anita Norris, of Raleigh; Salimah Bryant, of Fayetteville; Cheryl Scott, of Rocky Mount; and ultimate wild card winner Meghan Lumsden.
