WRAL To Air Gubernatorial Debate |
On Saturday, July 10, 2004, at 7pm, the six Republicans who will vie to be their party’s candidate for North Carolina Governor will go head to head on WRAL-TV. As part of WRAL’s Candidates and Issues Forum, that station will air a one-hour commercial-free debate.
Each candidate will have one minute to answer questions; the same questions will be posed to each candidate. WRAL-TV Anchor David Crabtree will serve as host and moderator. WRAL-TV Reporters Cullen Browder, Laurie Clowers and Gerald Owens will sit on the panel.
“We believe that the issues are at the heart of the political process and we want the viewers to be informed of how the candidates stand on the chosen topics,” said WRAL-TV Director of News Special Projects Leesa Moore Craigie.
To move on to the general election in November, one of the six vying for the Republican candidate for Governor must receive 40% of the primary votes or the 2nd runner-up can call for a run-off to be held 4 weeks after the primary.
“WRAL’s Candidates and Issues Forum: The Six Republican Candidates for Governor” will air on WRAL-TV and the WRAL NewsChannel in Raleigh, WJZY-TV and WWWB-TV in Charlotte, and WILM-TV in Wilmington on Saturday, July 10th at 7pm. It will air on WRAZ-TV/FOX50 in the Triangle on Sunday, July 11th at 10:35pm and on WXII-TV in the Triad area also on Sunday. The Forum will be uplinked via satellite Monday morning to all TV stations across the state that are members of the North Carolina Association of Broadcasters.
