American Tobacco Hosts Teen Smoking Prevention Tour
TRU – Tobacco. Reality. Unfiltered. – will be making a stop at the American Tobacco Historic District as part of the traveling program’s summer tour. ATHD will host the afternoon festival on Saturday, July 17th, from 3-6pm.
The event will be part casting call and part teen tobacco-use prevention festival. Crews will be on hand to film at the event and will use the footage to create TV commercials that will begin airing this fall. Local teens will be given an opportunity to be the stars of this “butt-kicking” campaign.
The TRU Road Trip also includes exhibits on the dangers of tobacco use, information on TRU local programs and a chance to win prizes from T.J. Maxx, the Carolina Hurricanes and others. Survivors of tobacco-related illnesses will be on hand to share their experiences.
The TRU Road trip is sponsored by the NC Health and Wellness Trust Fund. The tour is traveling to six cities in North Carolina this summer as part of the state’s teen tobacco use prevention campaign.
“We’re literally taking this potentially life-saving show on the road,” said Lt. Governor Beverly Perdue, chairperson of the TRU Road Trip. “We want to both listen to what teens have to say about tobacco and to provide them with the information and support they need to live tobacco-free.”
