WRAL-FM Evening Announcer Ray Thomas broadcasted from various hotels in the Reno-Tahoe area Monday, February 14, through Friday, February 18, 2005. The trip was courtesy of Delta Air Lines and the Reno-Tahoe Marketing Committee to promote a new direct flight from Atlanta to Reno on Delta. Three other stations from the Southeast participated in this promotion, including WKLS 96 rock in Atlanta, WLOQ Smooth Jazz 103.1 in Orlando and WLYF 101.5 LITE FM in Miami.
Thomas, Wolfpack Sports Marketing Assistant Network Engineer David Modlin and WRAL-FM Promotion Coordinator Paige Ellis all traveled to Reno-Tahoe for the week long broadcast on Saturday, February 12th and met up with the other stations and the promotion coordinators from Delta, RMC and Asher and Associates at the Reno-Tahoe airport.

On Sunday, February 13th, the group traveled to Squaw Valley USA, California for a fun-filled day of skiing. Thomas and Ellis took a beginners lesson and then hit the slopes to try out their new skills. After mistakenly going down an advanced course as a storm was blowing in, they called it a day and headed back down the mountain just before the cable cars shut down. Modlin enjoyed all the sites at the lodge atop Squaw Valley, which was the home of the 1960 Winter Olympics.
The group traveled to five different hotel/casinos over the seven day trip, broadcasting from a new location each day. The hotels included the Silver Legacy Resort Hotel and Casino in Reno, Resort at Squaw Creek in Squaw Valley USA, Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe, Harrah’s in South Lake Tahoe and the Peppermill in Reno.
The following week Thomas gave away eight 4 day / 3 night trips to Reno-Tahoe, including airfare for two on Delta Air Lines, skiing for two and a $250 gift certificate to Crabtree Valley Mall. Listeners registered at Crabtree Valley Mall throughout the month of February for the prize pack. These lucky winners will get to enjoy a fabulous trip just like Thomas, Modlin and Ellis did!
