On Friday, February 18, 2005, WILM joined the world of high-definition (HD) digital broadcasters. At 2pm, WILM began passing the CBS HD signal on Time Warner Cable. Wilmington can now see CBS in HD via channel 214.

WRAL-TV Engineering Manager Fred Kelly gets ready to flip the switch on HD for Wilmington. |
“We are absolutely thrilled to be able to provide an HD signal to the Time Warner Cable subscribers,” said WILM Station Manager Constance Knox. “It is the first of many steps we are taking toward providing full service WILM-HD to the Wilmington market.”
“While we still have a long way to go, we’ve jumped one of the biggest hurdles in getting the HD signal out there,” she continued. “As we move forward, we’ll eventually add new equipment that will allow for commercial insertion within the HD programs. Eventually we hope to expand the reach of the HD signal as we have done for WILM-TV throughout the Wilmington market.”
CBS currently broadcasts its primetime programming in HD, as well as The Young & The Restless during the afternoon. For a listing of CBS shows aired in HD, visit http://www.cbs.com/info/hdtv/index.php.
