Sean White and five other Pelicans pitchers combined to toss a three-hit shutout of the Charleston Riverdogs at Coastal Federal Field. |
Six Myrtle Beach pitchers combined to toss a three-hit shutout of the Charleston Riverdogs (Class-A-New York Yankees) in the 3rd Annual Coastal Clash exhibition game on Tuesday night, April 5, 2005, as the Pelicans cruised to a 4-0 preseason victory. The win gives the Pelicans a record of 3-0 in the series of exhibitions between the two Palmetto State rivals.
Myrtle Beach took an early lead in the bottom of the 2nd inning when SS Diory Hernandez lined a single to leftfield to score C Jarrod Saltalamacchia, who led off the inning with a single.
The Pelicans pitching staff held the Riverdogs to just three hits in the combined shut-out performance. Right-hander Sean White started on the hill for Myrtle Beach tossing two innings of one-hit, shutout baseball. Jake Stevens, Paul Bush, Ralph Roberts, Jacob Blakeney, Bryan Digby, each registered one inning of relief in the win.
Mother Nature changed Opening Night for the Pelicans, raining out their inaugural season game on April 7th. |
The exhibition served as the Pelicans final tune-up before they laced up the cleats for Opening Night on Thursday, April 7th against the Wilmington Blue Rocks.
However, Opening Night did not go as planned, thanks to Mother Nature. The game was rained out and, at the writing of this capcom story, has been rescheduled for Saturday, April 9th as a doubleheader with the Wilmington. The doubleheader will feature two 7-inning games.
