The Ultimate Wild Card
The Ultimate Wild Card (to be announced during the finale)

Last night, Tuesday, May 24, 2005, the Wild Card Playoff Show took place in front a full house in the BTI Center’s AJ Fletcher Opera Theatre in downtown Raleigh. The second-chance competition went on the air live, as the five Wild Cards, chosen each week by viewers in an online vote, pulled out all the stops for a crowd-winning performance.

Viewers could then vote for their Ultimate Wild Card online from 8pm until midnight. The winner of the Ultimate Wild Card will be announced live at the finale tonight and that contestants will join the five finalists to compete for the judges’ vote as the winner of FOX 50’s Gimme the Mike!

The grand prize includes a trip to New York to audition for record label executives, a performance on Alltel Pavilion’s second stage for one show this summer, and a demo from Osceola Recording Studios in Raleigh.

Tift Merritt & Jason Carroll
Grammy-nominated artist Tift Merritt (left) & last year’s Gimme the Mike! winner Jason Carroll will perform at the live finale.

FOX 50 is excited to announce that special guest, Grammy-nominated Tift Merritt and her band will perform live on the finale of this season’s Verizon SuperPages Presents FOX 50’s Gimme the Mike! The North Carolina native is living the dream of the Gimme the Mike! contestants. Having gained exposure with her unique style and local performances, and having won a music competition herself, she knows first-hand what it means to come from the Triangle area on a local level and gain national exposure. Her style described as a combination of roots rock, country and soul, she’ll be performing a song from her Grammy-nominated album “Tambourine.”

Don’t Miss It!
The live season finale of Gimme the Mike! airs tonight, Wednesday, May 25th at 7pm on FOX 50.

FOX 50 is also excited to welcome the return of last season’s FOX 50’s Gimme the Mike! grand prize winner Jason Michael Carroll for a special live performance.  Jason will open the night’s show with one of his original songs.

The 26-year-old North Carolina native has had a busy year after his television debut on last season’s competition.  Carroll has signed with management company Murphy to Manteo, been picked up by the Monterey Peninsula Artists booking agency, who books such artists as Aerosmith, Toby Keith, Dave Matthews Band and Montgomery Gentry, and had interest from several national record labels.  He’s also been traveling to Nashville to write with some big names in country music:  Radney Foster, Tracy Byrd and Jeffrey Steele.
