The 2005 Carolina League All-Star team has been announced and two Myrtle Beach Pelicans have been selected to the squad. Catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Pitcher Brady Endl will represent the Pelicans in the ’05 Carolina League vs. California League All-Star game on Tuesday June 28th at Harry Grove Stadium in Frederick, MD.
Jarrod “Salty” Saltalamacchia slides into third. |
Saltalamacchia is currently hitting .272 with 7 HR’s and 30 RBI. “Salty” leads the Pelicans in on-base percentage at .367 this season. The switch-hitting catcher was the first-round draft pick of the Atlanta Braves in 2003. It’s the second straight year that a Pelicans backstop has been selected to the CL All-Star team (McCann in ’04).
Endl is 4-3 this season with a sparkling 2.04 ERA, good enough for the lowest ERA in the league. The big southpaw from Jefferson, Wisconsin leads the pitching staff in strikeouts recorded (66) and innings pitched (75.0). Last year’s Division III Player of the year with Wisconsin-Whitewater has earned his first All-Star selection of his young professional career. Opponents are batting just .209 against Endl this season.
