Pelicans Kick-off 2006 Season at Home |
Fans will flock to Coastal Federal Field for the Pelicans Season Opener at home, tonight, April 6th at 7:02pm. |
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans will open their 2006 season and play their first home game of the year all on the same day. The Pelicans take on the Wilmington Blue Rocks at 7:02pm on the birds’ home turf at Coastal Federal Field tonight, Thursday, April 6th.
The Pelicans will break in a new skipper with the season’s start. Rocket Wheeler stepped up from the Rome Braves of the South Atlantic League to become Manager of the Pelicans earlier this year. Eighteen of the 27 players will be returning to Pelicans’ dugout, and eight on the roster are currently listed in Baseball America’s top 30 prospect list within the Braves system.
Pelicans’ fans will not only be treated to great baseball action on the field but will get to enjoy several great promotions as well. The first 3,500 fans to burst through the gates will be counted on to give the Pelicans a true home field advantage as they’ll be given Opening Night Cheerstix courtesy of Coastal Federal Bank. Budweiser’s Thirsty Thursday beer specials will flow from 6-8 pm and the Dixieland Cat Scratchers Bluegrass Band will jam throughout the evening thanks to Club Boca. To top off the night Fireworks, sponsored by Coastal Federal Bank, Sunny 106.5 FM & ESPN Radio “The Team,” will light up the sky immediately following the action on the field.
