The Tall Ships Are Coming! “WRAL Parade of Sail” Highlights Historic North Carolina Maritime Event Station Will Also Produce Half-Hour Special and In-depth Coverage on WRAL.com
|
WRAL-TV will carry a broad variety of coverage of the Tall Ships festival on the NC coast on the first weekend in July. |
On June 19, 2006, Capitol Broadcasting Co. and WRAL-TV announced a wide range of coverage plans for the upcoming gathering of “Tall Ships” on the North Carolina coast. In late June, fourteen majestic sailing ships from around the world will make port in Beaufort as part of one of North Carolina’s largest maritime events — “ Americas’ Sail 2006.”
Headlining WRAL’s coverage is a special live presentation of the “WRAL Parade of Sail” on the morning of Saturday, July 1st. WRAL anchors Debra Morgan, Bill Leslie, and David Crabtree will host the two-hour parade coverage live from Radio Island and Beaufort, bringing viewers stunning high definition (HDTV) views of the magnificent vessels from coastal vantage points, SKY5, and from cameras in chase boats. A nautical expert will provide in-depth commentary on each ship as she passes by. The live coverage begins at 9 a.m. on WRAL-TV and WRAL-DT. The parade will also be streamed on WRAL.com and the coverage will be simulcast statewide by the UNC-TV network.

WRAL will also produce a special program capturing the many highlights of the weeklong “Tall Ships” event in Beaufort. In addition, the program will feature a visit to Mystic Seaport, Connecticut, for a firsthand look at the recreated 19th century seafaring village and preservation shipyard. Mystic Seaport mirrors what the Olde Beaufort Seaport seeks to provide for North Carolinians and other tourists in future years. WRAL’s David Crabtree hosts this half-hour special that will first air Saturday, July 15th at 7pm on WRAL. The program will also be offered for sale on DVD through the WRAL.com website.
