State Games Tribute Held at Durham Bulls

State Games ceremony at Bulls
Past & present NCAS board chairs & board members lined up on the field.

The 2006 State Games were held in Cary, Durham and Raleigh this past June. 16,000 Tar Heel athletes participated in 26 sports in the Olympic-style competition.

CBC’s “Genuine Country” promoted a concert at Cary’s Regency Park to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the State Games, but the event fell victim to a severe thunderstorm.

State Games' dignitaries
The August 25th ceremony at the Bulls brought recognition to the State Games’ 20th anniversary.

To make amends, the Durham Bulls paid tribute to the State Games on August 25th with a post game ceremony that featured a ceremonial torch passing, cauldron lighting and fireworks. Bulls’ VP George Habel is Chairman of North Carolina Amateur Sports, the Games’ parent organization, and CBC was a founding sponsor of the Games two decades ago.
