Bill & Sheri’s Backpack Buddies Drive a Success for Triangle Kids |
Children get help loading their donations onto the Interfaith Food Shuttle truck. |
On Friday, September 29, 2006, MIX 101.5 WRAL-FM worked hard alongside the Interfaith Food Shuttle to help feed hungry kids. Bill & Sheri’s Backpack Buddies collection ran from 6am – 6pm raising $11,000 and three trucks full of donations.
Many Triangle children who get free and reduced-price lunches at school go home to have no food on the weekends. The Interfaith Food Shuttle organizes the Backpack Buddies Program to provide nutritional support. Children from targeted neighborhoods and schools are identified and given backpacks loaded with healthy food to tide them over the weekend. Empty backpacks are recollected and then re-filled for the next weekend’s use.

MIX staffers, volunteers and crew from the Interfaith Food Shuttle collected food and backpacks in the Crossroads Plaza in Cary. Generous MIX listeners brought by a variety of items that will help fill the tummies of Triangle children.
Thanks so much to all who donated!
