With the support of three North Carolina foundations, the A.J. Fletcher Opera Institute at the North Carolina School of the Arts will present a new opera in Raleigh in February.
“Our Town” is funded primarily by a grant from the A.J. Fletcher Foundation, which publishes the Philanthropy Journal, with additional support from the Mary Duke Biddle Foundation, Broyhill Family Foundations and Arts Council of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County.
Performances will be held February 9 and 11 at the downtown Fletcher Opera Theater at the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts.
The opera is based on the play by Thornton Wilder, with music by composer Ned Rorem and lyrics by poet J.D. McClatchy.
Institute opera fellows, along with students from the School of Music, will perform, with sets and technical support provided by students from the School of Design and Production.
