CBC/Charlotte television stations WJZY CW46 and WMYT My TV12 are reaping the rewards of being located in a Top-25 television market. Nielsen Media Research recently announced that the Charlotte market has become the nation’s 25th largest DMA (Designated Market Area) with 1,085,640 television households.
An immediate benefit is expenditure of promotional dollars by programming syndication companies that are reserved for Top 25 markets. Warner Bros has announced its intention to purchase billboards in Charlotte to promote the launch of the sitcom George Lopez, and MGM is making a substantial radio and television buy in the market for Stargate Atlantis. Both programs air on WJZY CW46.
“Charlotte has passed San Diego and Indianapolis in market size over the past two years and is on track to pass Baltimore in 2008”, said WJZY/WMYT Research Director Robin Symes. “Reaching a milestone like this makes everyone in the television industry sit up and take notice.”
Television stations in Charlotte could also garner additional broadcast sales revenue from national advertisers and agencies by moving into the Top 25, according to executives at Millennium Television Sales which represents WJZY/WMYT nationally.
