The North Carolina News Network is bringing home a trophy case full of awards yet again.   NCNN won three first place news awards and two second place awards at the StateNets News and Affiliate Relations Directors meeting on December 4, 2007, in New Orleans.

NCNN made history at the StateNets this year, racking up the most awards the CBC-owned news network has ever won in one year.

NCNN won Best Spot News Coverage for coverage of the Apex Chemical fire. They won Story of the Year for Clayton Henkel’s Beyond the Headlines series “Surviving Stateside”, her series on the difficulty of military deployments on families. NCNN also won Best Series for Clayton Henkel’s Beyond the Headlines series “Changing Climates, Changing Attitudes”, her series on global climate change.

NCNN won second place for Best Network Website, with webmaster David Horn. And they won second place for Best Documentary for Clayton Henkel’s NC Report on the Economics of Racing.

There are 26 state radio networks that belong to the organization and each year NCNN competes for best news and sports stories.

Also at the StateNets convention, NCNN News Director Ellen Reinhardt was elected President for 2008. NCNN will host the convention in Raleigh next year.
