WRAL To Produce Republican Gubernatorial Debate
|
The debate for Governor is coming to the Triangle. WRAL News will produce a debate of the Republican candidates for Governor of North Carolina on Tuesday, April 15, 2008. WRAL News anchors David Crabtree and Cullen Browder will moderate between candidates Bill Graham, Pat McCrory, Bob Orr and Fred Smith. WRAL-TV will air the live program will from 7-8pm.
The debate will also air on WRAL-TV’s sister stations in the Capitol Broadcasting family. WILM-TV in Wilmington and WJZY-TV in Charlotte will air the broadcast live. The debate will also run live on the WRAL NewsChannel and via live streaming on WRAL.com.
“We are offering this debate to all media outlets across the state, as well as to CNN and the Associated Press,” said WRAL-TV Director of News Special Projects Leesa Moore Craigie. “We purposely lose some of our graphic branding to make the show more appealing to other media. We see this as a public service to our viewers and the voters of North Carolina.”
A post-debate discussion will air on the WRAL NewsChannel and wral.com immediately following the broadcast.
Crabtree and Browder will come up with most of the questions, but WRAL will also solicit questions at WRAL.com during the debate. Browder will pose some of those questions directly to the candidates during the broadcast.
WRAL-TV has invited both Democratic candidates for Governor to debate twice. Richard Moore accepted both, but Bev Perdue declined. However, WRAL will produce a Democrat debate on behalf of the North Carolina Association of Broadcasters on Tuesday, April 22 that will air live at 8 – 9pm.
