Duke University recently announced the names of five individuals who will receive honorary degrees at the university’s commencement exercises in May, and CBC President & CEO Jim Goodmon is on the list.
Goodmon attended Duke University for three years in the early ‘60s, but left to enlist in the Navy before obtaining his degree. However, he remains an avid Duke fan to this day.
“Honorary degrees serve the dual purpose of recognizing extraordinary individuals and inspiring graduating students,” said Duke President Richard Brodhead. “Students about to embark on their own careers, full of hope and promise, see at commencement these wonderful examples of how they might put their own learning to use in the future.”
The other four recipients include:
- Wendell Berry, author
- Helene Gayle, public health leader
- Barbara Kingsolver, author
- Patricia Wald, judge
Kingsolver will also be the keynote speaker at the 10am commencement on May 11th at the Wallace Wade Stadium on the Duke campus.
