High school sports fans in the Triangle area have something to cheer about. CBC New Media Group has launched HighSchoolOT.com, a new Web site dedicated to the coverage of prep sports.

High School OT.com“We will cover high school sports in ways no one else can,” said Dane Huffman, sports managing editor for WRAL.com and WRAL-TV. “HighSchoolOT.com will blend content from television, radio and the Web in a way that appeals to a high school audience.”

Former Cary News sports editor Tim Candon will serve as editor of HighSchoolOT.com. He will be joined by preps reporter Nick Stevens, WRAL.com sports producer Ryan Craig and four correspondents.

Developed during the last several months, HighSchoolOT.com features players, coaches and contests in the Tri-Eight, Cap 7, PAC 6 and Greater Neuse River conferences. In addition to robust football and basketball coverage, the new site also will cover Olympic sports, with a focus on student athletes.

HighSchoolOT.com is jam packed with the latest in the Triangle’s high school sports.

A signature of HighSchoolOT.com coverage will be the Game of the Week. The Web site will feature previews and profiles from the week’s top matchup, and Capitol Broadcasting’s 99.9 The Fan will broadcast live from 3 to 7pm at the home team’s school.

The state’s only FM sports radio station, 99.9 The Fan also will produce an hour-long weekly radio show about high school sports hosted by Adam Harris. The show, also called HighSchoolOT, will air from 8 to 9am Saturdays starting Aug. 30, 2008, and include Friday night scores and post-game interviews and analysis. Candon, Stevens and Craig will be frequent contributors to the show, and audio interviews from The Fan will be posted to the Web site.

“We believe high school sports deserve better media coverage,” said Mike Morgan, General Manager of 99.9 The Fan. “Our goal is to recognize the players, coaches and fans and make them feel special.”

Fans of WRAL-TV’s Football Friday with Tom Suiter will find video highlights from the show, now in its 28th season, on HighSchoolOT.com. The site also will have video programs produced exclusively for the Web.

HighSchoolOT.com will be available on mobile phones with Web access. Point your phone’s browser to WRAL.com, or text HSOT to 46988.

Thanks to WRAL-TV’s Debbie Strange for this capcom story.
