 NCNN Looks at Efforts to Keep Fishing Profession Alive on NC Coast

                  As  waterfront property continues to soar in value, North Carolina’s dock space, its fishing  piers and its fish-houses are vanishing.                    
High fuel  prices, regulations, and an abundance of cheap seafood imports are forcing more  and more commercial fisherman to cut their losses and leave an industry that  they love.

In Carteret County, a group of commercial fishermen,  seafood distributors, restaurant owners, and fishery researchers have formed a  partnership to help the county’s fishing industry adapt to these challenges and  the global seafood market.
In “Net  Change on the Carolina Coast” the North  Carolina News Network examines efforts to keep fishing a viable profession  and preserve a culture that characterizes the central coastal region of North Carolina.
