iPhone App For High School Sports Now Available
|
Fans of high schools sports in North Carolina’s Triangle area can now access video highlights, player interviews, scores and blogs from a new application developed specifically for the Apple iPhone™.
The HighSchoolOT app is the first dedicated to high school sports content, based on an inventory of applications in the iTunes Store®. The app is currently ranked No. 41 in the sports category of the App Store®.
The free download provides a graphically rich display of prep sports, news and features from CBC New Media Group’s HighSchoolOT.com Web site. First released on August 26, the app offers the latest scores from Friday night football games, plus video highlights and team pages for each public and private school in the Triangle.
“The iPhone app is a logical way for us to extend the HighSchoolOT brand and get content into the hands of a younger audience,” said Jimmy Goodmon, vice president and general manager of CBC New Media Group. “The phone is their preferred means of sending and receiving information.”
To download the app, go to the iTunes® store and search “HighSchoolOT”. You can also access the download link by visiting http://bit.ly/YjDFJ. The app can be installed on the iPhone® and iPod touch®.
In conjunction with the iPhone application, a mobile web site was launched the same day and is available for all devices at http://m.highschoolot.com.
The application and mobile site were developed for HighSchoolOT.com by sister company News Over Wireless (NOW). Both NOW and HighSchoolOT.com are operated by CBC New Media Group, a division of Raleigh-based Capitol Broadcasting Company, which also owns WRAL-TV. WRAL-TV was the first local TV station in the country to offer an iPhone application, also developed by NOW.
”We are delighted to launch our first iPhone app in the sports category,” said Sam Matheny, NOW general manager. “High school football is such a passionate local experience, and the HighSchoolOT app makes perfect sense.”
NOW works with 141 broadcasters and media companies across the United States and is a leading provider of iPhone apps, advertising-supported mobile web sites, subscription-based premium applications and video channels. The company has launched over 30 local TV station iPhone apps. Several of these apps have attained top 10 rankings in the news category, and NOW has maintained over 15 apps in the top 100 of the news category for the past several months. The apps are extremely popular with users seeking fast access to quality information and a great user experience. Advertisers have also been very supportive with over 40 local and national sponsors.
