WJZY-TV and WMYT-TV are teaming up with the Salvation Army to help warm the lives of those in need this holiday season. For the 7th consecutive year, the CBC Charlotte Division is sponsoring Coats for Kids, a signature event for the stations. Beginning November 16, 2009, collection barrels will go out to sponsor locations throughout the viewing area.
Customers will be encouraged to donate new or gently used coats through December 31st. The coats will then be cleaned, sorted, and distributed by the Salvation Army to families in need.
This year’s sponsors include Douglas Furs, Hix Insurance, Donato’s Pizza, Carolina Ford Dealers, The Cleaners, Artisan Signs & Graphics, and Kiss 95.1.
“We love being a part of this project each year,” said Ace and TJ of Kiss 95.1’s morning radio show. “It is a highly visible and rewarding community service project for WJZY and WMYT, and a great way to challenge radio listeners and television viewers to give back this holiday. It just makes you feel good,” they added.
Coats collected before Christmas will be handed out in time for the holidays. Coats coming in through December 31st will be distributed in January for mid-winter relief.
“There is a huge need in our area for help and this partnership provides a needed resource to serve our community,” said Jim Price with the Salvation Army.
Thanks to WJZY’s Angela Golden for this capcom story.
