WRAL-TV’S 21st Annual Coats for the Children Community Service Project Provides Warm Winter Clothing for Families in Need
|
For the 21st year, WRAL-TV is collecting warm winter clothing and money for Salvation Army families in need. November 21st through December 31st, WRAL-TV invites the public to donate new or gently used coats at participating Jiffy Lube and Capital Bank locations in Raleigh, Apex, Cary, Durham, Chapel Hill, Fayetteville, Spring Lake, Parkton, Rocky Mount, Wilson, Fuquay-Varina, Garner, Clayton, Wake Forest, Morrisville, Oxford, Pittsboro, Sanford, Siler City and Goldsboro.
“Over the past 20 years, WRAL-TV raised more than $1 million. This is through the generosity of our terrific community,” says WRAL-TV Vice President and General Manager Steven D. Hammel. “Now, in our 21st year, the need for Coats for the Children is greater than ever. Thanks to the Salvation Army, our community partners and our generous viewers, I am confident that we will help meet the growing need.”
In addition to the need for clean coats, WRAL is asking the public to donate other winter clothing items including gently used gloves, hats, and new long underwear, t-shirts and socks to completely outfit a child for the winter months. Any size coat will be accepted; however, larger sizes for teens and adults and infant sizes are in particular demand.

On Friday, December 11th, WRAL-TV will broadcast the “Coats for the Children Telethon,” raising money to buy new, warm winter clothing and undergarments. Telethon operators will accept pledges from 6:00am until 8:00pm. The telethon includes two half-hour specials at 1:00pm and 7:00pm.
“It is such an honor to be associated with WRAL, Jiffy Lube and Capital Bank each year for the Coats for the Children campaign,” said Captain Greg Davis of the Wake County Salvation Army. “Their support of our organization and their commitment to those who need our help in this community is awe-inspiring. We are so thankful for all they do for The Salvation Army and for the many families they will assist with winter clothing this season.”
Credit card donations can be made online through December 31 by going to WRAL.com and searching keyword “Coats.” Other information such as coat drop-off locations, participating Salvation Army branches, telethon thank you gifts, and general campaign details can also be found on WRAL.com.
Since 1989, WRAL-TV has collected nearly 114,000 coats and raised $1,068,000 to provide winter clothing for Salvation Army families.
WRAL-TV thanks its community partners, Jiffy Lube and Capital Bank, for their support of this project.
