WRAL-TV To Hold 21st Annual Coats for Children Telethon This Friday
|
You wouldn’t think of leaving your house without a coat the past few days as the cold temperatures moved in. Unfortunately many children in the Triangle don’t have that luxury. To help keep these children warm, WRAL-TV will hold our annual Coats for the Children Telethon this Friday, December 11, 2009.
“In planning for our 21st Annual Coats for the Children Telethon with the Salvation Army, we have found the need in our community is even greater, this year, due to the stressed economy and jobless rate,” said WRAL-TV Director of Local Production Phyllis Parish, who puts together the Telethon broadcast each year.
Starting bright and early during the morning newscast, volunteers on the phone bank will begin taking calls for donations at 6am.
Call 1-877-543-2628 anytime between 6am – 8pm on Fri, Dec 10th to make a credit card donation

The day-long drive includes two half-hour specials. WRAL-TV Morning Anchors Bill Leslie & Kelcey Carlson & Evening Anchor David Crabtree will host the activities from WRAL-TV’s Studio A at 1pm, and Crabtree will return with WRAL-TV Evening Anchors Pam Saulsby & Chief Meteorologist Greg Fishel for the 7pm special..
Phone operators will continue taking calls up until 8pm.
Special incentives throughout the day will reward callers even beyond the half-hour broadcasts.
“I hope the ‘thank you’ gifts we have scheduled for Friday’s Telethon will encourage those who can give to stretch a bit, for those who need the basics – warm, winter clothes,” said Parish. “In return for those generous donations, we have some exciting ‘thank you’ gifts, including Phantom of the Opera tickets, a WRAL behind the scenes tour with Tracker the Newshound, and even your own snow party!”
For a full list of the impressive line-up of thank you gifts, visit the Coats for the Children section of WRAL.com. The incentives are based on time of call and pledge amount. Every person who calls in with a Coats donation will receive a Jiffy Lube coupon book valued at $150!
“Be sure to join us, Friday,” said Parish, “…it’s sure to flurry!”
