Cary Magazine started the year out presenting the annual Maggy Awards for the Best of Western Wake, and several CBC divisions and personalities made the list.   A record number of readers submitted nominations and voted for the winners of the 2010 competition.

2010 Maggy AwardsWRAL-TV has won Best TV Station for all five years the awards have been presented.  The anchors once again swept the winning slots for their categories, and several others on the WRAL newsdesk won honorable mentions.  Even though officially retired, Tom Suiter still won Best Sportscaster.

Cary Magazine interviewed WRAL-TV Anchor David Crabtree for the article.

“I get to learn something new every day,” he told the magazine. “The people I meet, I travel and hear marvelous stories. I feel like the luckiest guy with the best job in broadcast journalism.”

Crabtree echoed the readers’ sentiments that WRAL-TV is tops.

“In the good and bad news reporting, Crabtree believes he works for the best TV station in the country because of its commitment to the community, not necessarily the awards it wins,” read the article about the Maggys.

The Durham Bulls continue to reign as the Maggys’ favorite local sports team, and the sales staffers at Wolfpack Marketing are happy that N.C. State athletics continue to rank on the list for college sports teams, coaches & announcers.

“The reasoning behind the [Bulls’] selection this time had a little extra emphasis since the Bulls proved that they were truly the best team in Triple-A Baseball,” read the article.  “This past season, Durham not only claimed its third International League Championship since 2002, but the Bulls also won their first Triple-A National Championship. Durham defeated Memphis with a dramatic finish in the 11th inning during a single, winner-take-all affair.”
