On the weekend of April 10 & 11, 2010, CBS 10 WILM participated in the 63rd Annual North Carolina Azalea Festival. The Festival is a celebration of Wilmington’s exceptional artwork, gardens, rich history and culture during its five days of entertainment that includes: a parade, street fair, circus, concerts, pageantry, and all that is Southern.
CBS 10 WILM set up a tent beside Sunrise Broadcasting, adorned with 10th Anniversary banners, a prize wheel & great prizes from CBS syndicators. The festival was definitely a success, as by-passers expressed their love for Wilmington’s CBS affiliate and the shows in which we air.
WILM Account Executive Bethany Watkins was manning the tent Saturday afternoon and recalls one couple who said that WILM was the only station their television was ever set on.
“They said that we have all of their favorite programs, and that there was no need to watch any other station!” said Watkins. “That was nice to hear!”
WILM employees worked the tent Saturday, April 10th and Sunday, April 11th, giving away Watch magazines, coffee mugs, t-shirts and water bottles as prizes. Since its start in 1948, the Festival has blossomed into a complete weekend celebration that attracts more than 300,000 people.
According to Watkins, “Tons of people were walking around with CBS 10 WILM mugs and water bottles – hopefully, we will gain even more viewership by getting our name out there!”
Thanks to WILM’s Cyndal Russell for this capcom story.
