When the 2011 Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure took over the campus of Meredith College on Saturday, June 11th, Capitol Broadcasting stations had three different teams in play.
MIX 101.5 had two teams this year. TEAM LYNDA members came out to walk and run with MIX Morning Show Co-Host Lynda Loveland. TEAM BILL members went for the Sleep in for the Cure option with her co-host Bill Jordan. Both teams worked hard to garner participants and raise money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
TEAM WRAL, the official team of WRAL-TV, worked again to help Komen raise funds to find a cure.
Team WRAL members are ready to race: (r to l) WRAL-TV’s Loretta Harper-Arnold & WRAL-TV’s Andrea Schrock are joined by two volunteers, Dorothy & Judy. |
“Race for the Cure was amazing,” said WRAL-TV Creative Director Shelly Leslie. “Always inspiring. Always uplifting. Blown away by the energy of the crowd, gathered together in unison against this disease. I leave the event each year energized to do more the next year.”
WRAL-TV Associate Producer Debbie Tullos took over this year as captain of Team WRAL.
“With her personal connection to the cause, enthusiasm, new ideas, and a new team facebook page she grew our team to 302 people and we raised $23,433!” reported Leslie.
All three teams helped the 2011 Race for the Cure raise almost $1.8 million in the fight against breast cancer. Donations are still being accepted through July 11, if you still want to get in on the action. Make a contribution here:
“I have no doubt that WRAL-TV’s work with Komen saves lives,” said Leslie. “We hope even more CBCers will join us next year.”
