Enter the world of Terra Nova, a pre-historic experience in Bay 7, as the FOX 50 Family Fest returns to American Tobacco’s campus. The family-friendly experience will include a sneak peak of FOX 50’s Terra Nova, pre-historic reptiles, a fossil dig and other fun activities throughout the day.
The Great American Tobacco Duck Race, which benefits three area non-profits, returns as the anchor event of the FOX 50 Family Fest. For the second time, the two powerhouse events will join forces in downtown Durham. The fun will take over the campus on Saturday, October 1, 2011 from noon until 5pm. The event if free and open to the public.
Family Fun
Hillside and Southern High School Marching Bands will rock the house in a band showcase, Noah’s Landing, a favorite at last year’s event returns to delight the crowd with an expanded live animal showcase. National Jump Rope Champions “The Bouncing Bulldogs” will get the crowd jumping, the Y will have everyone moving with field game and activities, families will enjoy chatting with a variety of vendors and trying all sorts of interactive games. And we’ve added a Baby Crawling contest. Win exciting prizes throughout the day!
Let’s Get Quacking
The highlight of the FOX 50 Family Fest will be the Great American Tobacco Duck Race. Thousands of people will line the banks of the Ol’ Bull River to find out who will win prizes for the swiftest ducks. The Duck activities get underway at 330pm with a Duck Decorating Contest, followed by the Duck Race at 4pm and concludes at 5pm with an awards ceremony.
Proceeds from this year’s Duck Race benefit Explorer Post 50, Inter-Faith Food Shuttle and our newest partner – Durham Literacy Center. Individual and Corporate Ducks can be purchased directly from each non-profit, below. The Great American Tobacco Duck Race, now in its 5th year has generated over $100,000 collectively for area non-profits.
Mike Maze, Mark Roberts, and Brian Dawson, FOX 50’s B Spot host, will judge the Duck Decorating contest and emcee the Duck Race.
