Capitol Broadcasting’s News Over Wireless (NOW) division recently got some good press from TVNewsCheck for being the leader in developing over-the-top (OTT) apps for television stations. A division of CBC New Media Group, NOW works with broadcasters and wireless phone carriers to provide news and information on mobile phones through video channels, downloadable applications and mobile websites.
The article focuses on how “dozens of TV stations … have begun quietly experimenting with technology that can deliver content to Internet-connected TV sets and conventional TVs linked to the Net through Blu-ray players, game consoles, DVRs and specially designed set-top boxes from Roku, Western Digital and others.”
Writer Heather Phillips interviewed NOW General Manager Sam Matheny for her article “Stations Amp Up Viewing with OTT Apps,” which posted on TVNewsCheck.com on Wed, Oct 12, 2011.
Phillips reports, “News Over Wireless (NOW), which began by developing apps for mobile devices, over the past year has developed OTT apps for 61 TV stations that work on the Yahoo Connected TV platform. The Yahoo platform runs on 70 TV models from Sony, Toshiba, Vizio and Samsung. “
She interviewed Matheny who talked about NOW’s partnership with Yahoo and the challenges of new technology.
