There was a lot more going on in Charlotte on Thanksgiving Day than eating Turkey! 2011 was the 23rd year of the Charlotte Southpark Turkey Trot event.
Over 8,000 runners and walkers participated this year and enjoyed the beautiful route throughout the Southpark area.
The events included an 8k, a 5k run/walk, a 1 Mile Fun Run and the very popular 26.2 yard Toddler Trot.
“This year we had our biggest turnout ever and it’s just amazing to have this many folks participate,” said Event Organizer Neil Howard. “We are so thrilled with the support we get from CW46 and our long partnership on both this event and our Racefest event in April.”.

Many of the crowd of 10,000 stop by the visit the WJZY tent. |
Spectators and well-wishers brought the number in attendance to just over 10,000. Many cheered family and friends on and many were in the holiday spirit wearing turkey outfits and elf hats.
The weather could not have been more perfect!
CW 46 third party event sponsors included Subway, Powerade and Zaxby’s. CW46 staffers were onsite with giveaways and what has now become our world famous ‘Plinko’ game…the miniature version of the big one from The Price is Right. Kids as well as adults lined up to have a turn and win a prize!
New this year, the event gave every participant a medal for finishing and they incorporated a fun element where a prize was awarded to the person who could “Beat the Turkey” during the 8k race. A runner was dressed as a turkey and that was the guy to beat!
The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is a beneficiary from the event as well as Partners for Parks.
